NYR #17, Painting the Living Room

When we first moved into our house, we painted Rock's room (above) and Fix's study (not pictured).
Then, we slowly moved on to the dining room...
And a focal wall in the master bedroom.
But one room, the living room, has remained unpainted. When I was spending a lot of time nursing Rock in this room, I often found myself dreaming of painting the walls and imagining which color would work the best.
But long after Rock was weaned, the walls remained white, blah and boring. Our living room was lacking life!
That is, until I found CLAPBOARD GRAY - the perfect gray that somehow conveys warmth even though it has undertones of blue and green!
So we set to work preparing the room for a paint makeover! Our walls were a mess (thanks to previous owners and my carelessness) so it took a LONG time to get them ready to paint.
This is my I've-been-prepping-the-walls-for-two-whole-days-face (y0u can also see the beginning of my baby bump). Then, with lots of help from my dad and my husband, I applied two coats of primer to really cover all the patching we had done...
Then with two coats of low-VOC Clapboard Gray paint, the living room was transformed!
The color is light so it's hard to capture on film. Or at least it's hard for an amateur photographer to capture on film...
But it makes a big difference in the space. I'll explain the broken lamp in a future post!
The new paint job really brings the room together - it even makes the penny jar look good!
It might appear 'white' to you, but if you look closely at the top of this picture you can see the difference between the walls and the ceiling.
The best part is, it's DONE! YAY! 17 NYR's down, 8 to go!
p.s. You may have noticed (or not!) that we didn't rehang the old curtains in the newly painted room. Neither of us were very crazy about them so we decided to find something new. I'll keep you posted (pun intended) on what we pick.

Oh no....the difference is CLEAR! Now things like the lampshades & those neat scrolly plaques you painted really STAND OUT!
Great job Fixes!!! Doesn't a newly painted room feel good?
